Little Trethvas, The Lizard, Helston, Cornwall

A small and friendly site situated on the unique and unspoilt Lizard Peninsular, an ideal place from which to explore this wonderful corner of Cornwall.

Fantastic beaches, Wonderful walks, Scrumptious food, Scenic drives through sleepy villages and wooded valleys, Trot off on horseback across the Goonhilly Downs or to the beach for a canter in the sea, While away a day in the idylic gardens that slope down to the river.

Explore the echoy creeks that branch off the Helford river and used to be the haunt of smugglers – If history is your thing we have iron age settlements, barrows and of course the tin mines to visit. This area is known as ‘The Menage’ in Cornish this means ‘Land of the Saints’, so paths dotted with Celtic crosses where early christian pilgrims walked criss cross the peninsular. Remains of little chapels can often be found in the undergrowth. Ironage settlements and burial mounds are dotted all over the Lizard and of course theres the tin mines to visit and learn about Cornwalls industrial past.

Walking

There is wonderful rambling for the walkers .Walks to Kynance, Mullion, Cadgwith and the Lizard village start from the campsite so no need to drive.

Biking

Cycle down the pretty lanes to Cadgwith or go off for the day across the peninsular.Off road across the Lizard and Goonhilly downs.

Beaches

The many beaches nearby offer surfing and very safe seaside experiences for younger children.

Great Food

Pasties are made locally, cream teas, fish and chips, reasonably priced pub food and for the foodies among you the wondeful eateries serving the locally caught fish.

Sailing

If you feel like messing about on the Helford river, you can hire day boats or go on an organised trip from Helford village and St Anthony.

Fishing

Catch your own either from the rocky headland or book a trip on a local fishing boat.Bring it home and cook on the barbi.

Gardens

On the other side of the Helford river are Glendurgan and Trebah gardens.both of these have their own beaches so remember to take your cossie.

Christmas

The Lizard really is a wonderful place to visit over the Christmas break. Cadgwith, Coverack and Porthlevan all have fantastic light displays over and around the bays and harbours.

Lots of the local pubs do a festive dinner but book early..

Further afield

If you must leave the Lizard, you’ll find Falmouth, St Ives, Truro and Lands End are all within easy reach.
